FB Ref shows on internet?
« on: May 15, 2010, 03:07:03 PM »
Are any of you aware of radio or TV shows on football officiating? Even internet-only ones. Looking for ideas that could help me improve mine.

I've started one recently called, "Nice Call Ref" on DesMoinesAmplified.com where I interview local officials, mostly high school but some NCAA guys. Streaming video and audio, so we can include visuals and video clips to illustrate some points.

Very few live listeners thus far to this 1-hour show, but I'm hoping to gain interest from groups like this who may watch the recorded shows like this link below, where my guests were Brad O'Hara (Big Ten) and Bobby Colosimo (Missouri Valley and AFL).
http://www.viddler.com/explore/zebradan/videos/4/

If you're interested in catching a live show, see us at DesMoinesAmplified.com at 8 pm Central. Always looking for interesting guests, can join me by phone or Skype. Live viewers/listeners can ask questions in the chat window. I don't make a dime from this, but any sponsorships benefit my local association, DMOA, dmoa.net. What it currently lacks in production value we're making up for in content.

Always open to suggestions.

Zebra Dan - the latest interview with Jim MacLean was very entertaining - some of those anecdotes should be in <war stories> - especially loved the one about the parachutist

Thanks guys. I've really lost touch with this board and didn't see these comments or responses until now. I need to go check out those podcasts. Keep other examples coming.

Nice Call Ref is gradually growing up, we've aired 13 episodes now. Here's the show's official blog http://nicecallref.com
The station where you can view the episodes live (very few actually do): http://desmoinesamplified.com - it now airs at 7 pm Central on Tuesdays. All of the archived episodes are here: http://www.viddler.com/explore/zebradan/videos/

Watch for some former NFL refs coming soon. I'm always looking for guests if you'd like to dial in on Skype with a PC camera. Also need suggestions for what you'd like to see. Follow me on twitter @nicecallref

As a follow-up, I'd like to point out my local association DMOA created a new award, The John Keck Citizenship Award, and bestowed the first honor on 31-year official Ron Tryon last week. Article on this here: http://nicecallref.com/ron-tryon-receives-the-john-keck-award

Many may know the name John Keck, who was an NFL umpire for 25 years, Big Eight before that. He worked Super Bowl XXX and two more before that as an alternate. Anyway, watch for blog entries from Tryon on NiceCallRef.com, and both should be appearing soon on the show. Next Tuesday 9/07 is a 35+-yr official Dick Leutzinger, that's 7pm CT. Would love to have your questions.

Thanks - I'll check out "Speaking Officially" since I just started on NCAA games this season.

New episode of Nice Call Ref tonight features referee Neil Barrack and his wing John Bergman from here in Des Moines. They do both NFHS and NCAA. Show runs live at 7 pm CST at http://bit.ly/drTIq2, archives at NiceCallRef.com.

Now that I've got the Skype video interviews figured out, we'll start to feature remote guests, very recognizable names nationally. Let me know if you'd like to recommend a guest or join me yourself sometime (that invite is open to anyone). zebradan [at] gmail.com or on Twitter @nicecallref

This week's episode features a pair of officials who've worked 24 years together (Neil Barrack and John Bergman) and we touch on playoff games, sportsmanship issues (ejections), recruiting new crew members, and more.

http://nicecallref.com - Please check it out, let me know what sort of content you'd like to see/hear.
