Did You Know...
« on: September 26, 2010, 08:36:18 PM »
that you cannot submit a UIL incident report today unless you are a UIL registered official?

A friend of mine submitted one yesterday and got a call from Mr. Timmons stating that the UIL would love to investigate his report...but that nothing would be done until the entire crew was UIL registered.  The complaint was related to a payment issue.  The crew received a $45 check for working a 3A varsity game.

So just to clarify...a UIL school broke a UIL CCR 1204 rule..and the UIL is not going to do anything about it because the crew is not yet UIL registered.  Nice!  Nothing like some strongarm tactics from the beloved Mr. Timmons.   ^flag

Remind me again why we should be quick to jump in bed with this guy?

Not excusing the mispayment at all but is that something that should be handled via a UIL Incident Report.  Shouldn't that be handled by the Chapter directly with the school?

I would say both should be involved.  The UIL CCR is in place for the schools to follow.  So if they break those rules, there are penalties that are to be imposed by the district committee and UIL.

From a chapter standpoint, a strong board would send the AD a letter and demand proper accounting and payment...and threaten to suspend service if not rectified immediately.

The incident was reported to both entities.

Maybe I don't know all the details but isn't it possible the school's finance department made an error and did not realize what they were cutting the check for?  Have they been given a chance to  correct the possible mistake before anyone "jumps ugly" on them?

If it was a simple clerical error, then it won't be hard to fix.  But if this goes unreported, then there is no history.

To me, it's like getting pulled over for not having a working tail light.  If the officer doesn't document it with a written warning citation, then the next time it happens, there is no historical record.

I agree with you in principle that this might be a first offense and could easily be rectified.

But let's not get too far away from the real issue here.  If a coach punches you in the face next week, Timmons won't act on that if you have not registered with the UIL...despite the fact that on October 1st, you had met all requirements to be on the field that day working a UIL contest.

So, essentially what the UIL has done is say that we will not entertain any incident reporting from non-UIL officials.  If you eject players or coaches, have a bench clearing brawl, have a safety issue at a field, never get paid, get underpaid to 1204, or experience any other reportable incident, you cannot report it if you are not registered, even though registration is not due until November 1.  So, what's to keep schools from intentionally underpaying officials and coaches from tempering their actions?

The UIL continues to create PR nightmares for themselves.  What does this possibly accomplish?

If you go to the TASO site it will bring up the old form, if you go to the UIL site it will bring up the new form, that requires you to register. I'm assuming if you use the old form via the TASO site you may get a call from TT. So my question is you are required to file a IR for some situations, but looks like you need to register with UIL before you can send it, but we don't have to LEGALLY register until Nov 1. Looks like a real cluster fub. IMO. But why does this not surprise me from the new Hitler regime.

You are correct.  I heard of one official that reported an incident via TASO site and he got a phone call from TT wondering why he hasn't submitted a report.  He told them he did it through TASO.  TT told him they don't get it and that it must be done through UIL.  I'm curious how TT knew to call him if he didn't get it. ???

Gentlemen: Sounds like a grand telescopic view of the future of what is lurking in the shadows and is awaiting TASO sports officials if and when the UIL is finally allowed to gain total control of things in the state of Texas. There is no better argument in the entire world than for all of us to stand shoulder to shoulder and together so that we can properly insure that TASO does persevere and that it will continue to give us the fair and just representation that it always has!   z^

Sounds like I will have a lot of fun on 5 November watching everyone else work.  Even if the uil gives TASO everything they want, on principle, I will not register by 1 October and have no intentions of working for the uil.  Looks like my season and career are winding down.

Has anyone else in other chapters reported a similar issue?

Ornery1,  only 3 of our guys have registered with the UIL.  That is all that has decided to register.   Come   11/1 who do you think will work our games after that?  No way in hell that the UIL will force teams to cancel their games.

Most TASO members seem put off by the Hitleresque style of management displayed by Tony Timmons of the UIL.

Update:  Despite Tony Timmons refusal to take action on this issue and trying to force this crew into UIL registration, the report was emailed to Mike Fitch at the TASO office.  He filed a Freedom of Information Act request today with the school and has requested the gate accounting from this game.  TASO has no "jurisdiction" to force the school to pay, but they can get the info to the crew and let them proceed on their own.

Also, the crew that worked this school the next week got a check for $105.  I don't think it was a clerical error.  I think it was a screwing.

TASO and Mike...Thank You!

UIL and Timmons...Thanks for Nothing!
