What Chapters are Taking a Stand
« on: October 06, 2010, 06:20:26 AM »
I've heard that there are some of the large chapters (the big 5) that are dead set on taking a stand vs UIL by not registering.  Is this accurate?  Will the majority of the Houston, Dallas, Austin-SAT schools be forced to make the decision to lock out or allow unregistered referees on Week 10?

What chapters are boarding the windows and doors for Hurricane Tony that is due to make landfall about 7:30 on November 5th?

The Houston Chapter has invited both Fitch and Timmons to address the Chapter on Monday evening, October 18th at 6:30PM at the Campbell Center in Houston. The chapter has already begun to take questions from members that will be posed to both parties keeping in mind that the Chapter wants to somewhat be able to keep an aire of civility in this "debate." I myself personally feel that given the recent history of animosity between the two organizations, there should be a better format other than the hurling of "softball" questions at these two individuals. After all, we are still involved in litigation with the UIL and if they really want to "prove" their case and create good will with TASO during this time of litiginous activity, then the questions need to be very pointed, much like they would have to answer up on the witness stand under cross-examination. It is my understanding that questions of a potentially embarrassing nature will be edited and not allowed. I totally disagree with this format because TASO continues to be in a state of war with our UIL adversary whose clandestine desire is to usurp and take over sports officiating in the state of Texas. To that end, what beneficial element is there for TASO to even do this? I'm  almost positive that Tony doesn't really want to enter the "lion's den" and this could well be a gentlemen's agreement promoted chiefly to acquiese him into making an appearance. In my honest opinion, this softball approach really proves little to nothing!   z^

Austin.  At the last meeting the executive secretary was instructed not to change week 10 assignments by the membership.  My guess, less than 10 - 20% register from Austin.

Dallas is in a hold and wait. The secretary said that it is an individual decision, but the chapter is going to wait and see regarding the new law suit.

Our chapter is not going to assign, or that is last word. We are small chapter, so probably doesn't matter much, but think nearly everyone is holding the line. Wish we were getting more info. I feel this is an important time and no one knows squat.

I don't really know if this is true, but I heard that there is a hearing October 20th.  If so, we should have a much clearer picture after that.

Something was supposed to be filed last monday 10/4, but of course lets keep the membership in the dark. Last time I looked, we were the ones paying the bills.

"I feel this is an important time and no one knows squat." Seems to be a major theme.

I hope the "Big 5" and every other chapter stands together in support of TASO.

Houston is conducting the interaction meeting between Timmons, Fitch, and the Chapter on October 18th. The Houston Chapter Board of Directors supposedly will make its appropriate recommendations to its constituency shortly thereafter.   z^

Thats a pretty good bet on the 5 since the "Big 5" FOOTBALL chapters are the only ones Fitch is communicating with about this mess - only ones he invites to important meetings - only ones who seem to have insight as to TASO's next move.  The rest of us are in the dark - as has been the usual TASO way.

Not exactly correct. While the Big 5 went to the meeting, TASO has kept the chapters informed mainly through the District Directors. I know our DD has had a steady email stream keeping us advised.

Maybe you should ask your District Director?

Playing devils advocate the DD should call us.

Fitch has called our pres at times during this ordeal.

What about a weekly update on the TASO website so members don't have to call around to find out what's going on.

We have members complaining they receive too many emails already.  A weekly update?  Like, "Hey, nothing happened this week, nothing happened last week."  The court system is not exactly NASCAR here.

If there no news to report should we get an update saying "there is no news to report"?

Have you recieved anything else from the UIL?

Quit your whining and go work your games. We will hear what we need to hear when the time comes.

Easy there Tex - if whining weren't allowed we'd lose the State Specific site for our Texas soap opera.  But as far as hearing what I need to hear - i disagree - I'm a paying member of TASO in good standing - I should not have to call around to find out what TASO is doing during this time of TASO's demise - there should be someone in TASO State that can use a compter (although most are very old and probably not computer literate).  I also disagree that the time has not come for us to know whats going on - TASO "appears" to be on the ropes, last breath, dieing on the vine, etc...when do you think is a good time for them to start updating members on a regular basis?

Good news is that our ED is an IT guy so he has some computer skills.

I'd like to know what is going on like everyone else does but I don't see any reason to keep telling everyone "we are working on it". We will hear what we need to hear when there is something to say.

As for the "demise" of TASO, I'll leave that for others to discuss. I guess you can insert my name in place of TASO. If it goes, I go to.

Nice work TxJim, you sleuth.  However, it will be Tuesday the 19th the case is heard, not the 18th.
