One of the things that has always impressed me with regard to military parachutist jumps is the system and care they take to ensure the American flag does not hit the ground.  Meanwhile we have a POS local sports reporter here who will not even stand up during the national anthem at games.

Who is he?  He should be outed.

Could be a religious issue.  I know Jehovah's Witnesses who have refused to stand for the Pledge of Alliegance or the National Anthem because it "deifies an mortal construct".  ::)

Thank you so much for finding that clip!  I was actually there at that end of the field right behind the posts about 25 rows up so I got a great view. The 113,065 crowd went absolutely mental when he managed to nail it and land right on the little X they had laid out for him.

A couple of things ran throught my mind when I saw he was from the 101st. A few years ago, I visited St Mere Eglise (captured by the 101st and 82nd) as part of a vacation trip to the D-Day beaches and museums. Band of Brothers was filmed on the old Hatfield Aerodrome (an hour away from me) - part of which has now been redeveloped into facilities for the University of Hertfordshire including a 3G turf field. They have an American Football team and I've reffed them there many times.
Sorry Death, you lose! It was Professor Plum....

As for the anthem - of course I stood and took off my hat, just like I did for the anthem before all the games I officiated whilst in Michigan and Ohio. But I only sing along to the "rockets red glare" part. They are British rockets after all..... ::)

The impression I get is that for many it does.  They even take it so far as to not swearing or affirming to uphold the Constitution against all enemies, foreign or domestic.  (That "mortal construct" thingie again)

I work in a government office an a coworker is a JW.  He stands and does the pledge and everything else.

Heh.  He must be a "modernized" JW, then.  We still get a student every few years or so who sits during the Pledge because of his/her parent's religious beliefs.
