Surprising as it may seem, we don't ALL blindly do what the NFL officials do. Our mechanics have the wings at least 10 - 15 yards outside the nearest player, which means we can be on the field - especially if the ball is on the far hash mark.
The LJ in this case "fornicated the French Poodle". You can see him putting the whistle to mouth and starting the incomplete signal before the camera pans away. I won't go as far as the announcers did and say a touchdown was stolen, though. The intended receiver was closest and obviously made no move to the ball because the whistle had blown. Green might have still recovered, but White probably would have had someone there as well.
