What bothers me with this scenario is that I'm supposed to sign the blank report before turning it in.  I would have thought my signature is what confirmed that what I was reporting is accurate.

I know at least 1 guy who will NOT be turning in an incomplete form.  He appreciates the offer to help him fill it out but he feels confident he can gather and report the data just fine on his own.

That makes two of us.  It isn't like I need more points or anything.

I think the point that needs to be made here is why do we do this on paper every year?  How hard is it to create a google document to turn this in on?  Speaking of google documents.  I put this one together first off for a class I am taking, secondly because I may need a new person on my crew soon, and third I am interested in the data.  If you get a chance look at it and add comments in the comments section on what other questions to ask?  I am trying to determine factors that develop crew effectiveness.  https://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?formkey=dDVDR3hqQ0puWDYyQkFwNHJvYXNpdWc6MQ

If anyone would like access to the results then PM me.

Done.  Will you be sharing this with other crew chiefs as well?

Eventually.... I hope that this takes off but you can only give them so much at a time.  You know my suggestion put on a white hat and start your own crew.

I hear you.  I would love to but the chapter requirement to be a Division 2 to start a crew is a bit of a roadblock right now.

Let me preface this by saying, I am sure I am the only person who feels this way. However, I was disappointed to see that nothing was awarded for attendance of the state meeting. I have been to the last three state meetings and felt that the Abilene meeting was the best of the three. The meeting at McAllen was certainly not worth the drive and expense. At least McAllen awarded those who attended. Arlington was certainly more accessible, but still involved some expense and no reward. I think that if TASO would drop the coaches' thing and have the afternoon sessions in the morning, they were good, but you were limited as to time how many you could attend. Again, I know I am the only person that feels this way, but our chapter had only a few attend Arlington and most of those left early. If you are wasting your money and time, the regional clinic seems to be the way to go, but that is just me. I would think that TASO would want to have more people attend the state meeting and not less.

The state meeting programs need to be reviewed stringently in my opinion. Now with the TASO canned power points and such it almost makes more sense to not attend State but a regional clinic. You save a lot more time and money. So the State meeting has to have something that differentiates itself from the information at a regional clinic. So somtheing beyond that information needs to be done or shared. Example video presentations and review might be better. Just thoughts.

I agree with you 100% - I'll also add that the way many in my chapter encouraged new officials to go to the state meeting was the points bonus.  Now that this is out of the question, my recommendation will be to attend local training only - it's easy to max out on training points without the added expense of a state meeting.  And for those of you who will say the points bonus should not be a factor, and they don't wash their knickers, and they should attend for the training and expect no bonus - that's not reality.  In this economy, with the added expense of beginning this avocation, the points bonus was the only thing to encourage them.

Bonus points should NOT be the motivation for going.  We (TASO) ought to put a product out there that is reward itself for folks to attend.  I know some folks have become increasingly disillusioned about the state meeting over the past years and the challenge will be to get them back as well as to keep those who have continued going (assuming the 2011 board decides to continue with the plan to hold a state meeting in SA next year).  I have some ideas that I will be sharing with Cooper and if any of them are adopted i think folks are going to be presently surprised at some of the content.

I realize the points should not be a reason, but you are correct, the current format and topics are waste of time. Set up computers and have the blog posted, much better. I will be hesitant to waste time going to SA unless something changes. Like that is going to matter. Ha

No trip to SA should be considered a waste of time.  I bet if all the significant others out there hear it is going to be in SA there will be lots of y'all making your way here.

Hopefully, we will get away from some of the non-productive sessions (coach expectations) at the state meeting. We need to go back to break outs by position, passing, kicking, enforcement, etc.

I have made my thoughts known to the ED and the new board members as I hope all others will.
