KCI-possession
« on: November 03, 2010, 06:02:11 PM »
I have situation that put me in a dilemma.
On the kick off kicking team committed a KCI,and get the possession of the ball.
I gave the ball to the reciving team, conduct the penalty and start with 1 & 10 for R.
I think that was by the rules, but I want to know is there any situation where K keep the possession of the ball after KCI,since the ball is free after 10 yds?

Regardless of how far the ball travels, Team B must be given an unimeded oppurtunity to catch the kick.  If team A impededes it is a foul that is penalized 15 yards from the spot of the foul.  Team A will never get to keep the ball when B accepts that penalty.

But it isn't really "free" after 10 yards if the ball is still catchable and a Team B player has a chance to catch it. Team A have to give team B the opportunity to make the catch or they take the risk of being called for KCI.

Sounds to me as if you got this call perfect and enforced it correctly.

If A wish to remove the chance of KCI, then when they do an onside kick they should kick the top of the ball so it goes into the ground and bounces. Now it has touched the ground, team B cannot catch it, Team B can only recover it. So there is no chance of KCI.

If your situation was not an onside kick, and a really fast Team A player ran as far as the kick then either that really fast guy needs to be coached about KCI, or maybe Team A need to get a better kicker ;D
