last weekend of football in SA

This was our grand final for the year. not on video we had 3 ejections and in one instance 4x15 yard penalties on red for PFs and USCs which eventually totaled 48 yards and purple didn't score off this opportunity.
A tough game to officiate with only 5 fit officials from a tough season back to grass after a number of years on astro.

Would though like to pose a scenario.

1st quarter red late hits purple well out of bounds. Literally in past the line on the coaches box. Nothing severe just a big shove and required a flag. Player turns to the official and questions 'how can you flag that it was just a push.' Official turns and player runs behind him and clips the officials foot. The official throws his hat down for contacting the official in tripping him. The official believed that the player deliberately did it as no apology was forthcoming for it accidental and the way the player smugly questioned his call.
The player was ejected for contacting the official.
Upon reviewing the video it appears contact to the foot of the official and he immediately turns after the contact waits and nothing comes from the player so he thinks it appears deliberate. But the video does shows it as unintentional.
In the heat of battle I support the official and his version but there may be some fall out due to its unintentional manner yet seemed very deliberate to the official.
Any thoughts please as this hasn't happened here before.

Knowing the lack of respect and aggressive attitude players and coaches take outside of the USA towards officials, I would say the guy who threw his flag was probably in line.
I assume the incident happened at the game you described, so there were control issues and problems with the players already, and you need to take a hard line then.

If you are sure that the contact was unintentional from the video, then write the club and let them know that after reviewing the video it can be determined that the player was not intentionally contacting the referee - which could not be determined on the field. Here if someone is ejected they have to sit out (minimum) the next game (even if it is the next year) and the club has to pay a fee - so these should be dropped.

The "clarification" (apology) letter is fine.  But this should also be a teaching moment for the officials.  A cardinal rule is if you THINK it is a foul, it is NOT.  Applies to fouls against us also.  Unless the contacted official or a crewmate can say the act looked intentional, it should not be flagged.

PS   The umpire and head linesman need to switch positions.    ;D

Did the official ask the player what made him think it was ok to be initiating a "push" well after the play was over?

I was going to say it looked more like a wrestling show, then I see that the ad in the lower left corner is for MMA clothing.  eAt&

It's not that difficult to understand, and is very precise, (sorry to repeat) but it's like hitting your mother, it's something you never, ever do, nor want anyone to ever think you might have done.  100% of the responsibility for this is on the shoulders of the player.

When there is accidental, or irrelevant, contact, the first thing a player should be doing is to assure the official whatever contact may have happened was accidental.  When you accidentally bump into your mother, the smart son immediately says something like, "oops, sorry Mom", which removes all doubt and misunderstanding and allows both son and mother to forget about it and move on.

So it is with contacting an official, the player has the option of totally removing any notion that that the contact was deliberate or malicious, or leaving it up to the judgment of the official.  When you leave a judgment entirely up to someone else, you have no leg to stand on when you don't like the judgment that was made.

The player has total control over what impression he chooses to leave with that official, and ZERO control over what consequences may come with the impression he chose to leave.  There's a lot less unnecessary risk in the player quickly establishing that the contact was accidental and unintentional.

"Until the refs called offensive pass interference for a TINY NUDGE."  haha, love it! ;D

As for the possibly intentional trip of the official, it's a good reminder-- that when one of us has to go into the team area, especially to escort a player out of a potentially hostile environment, there should be another official watching for any nonsense in there.

The umpire doesn't have anywhere to hide his  sNiCkErS.

Thanking for sharing, Grant.  It is nice to see football played outside of the US.

The umpire's build is not typical many umpires whereas the HL's build is.

The umpire could still stand to lose 40lb - I know because my wife tells me!  ;)

Thanks for the compliment on the nice streaming show.  :)

as for the clothing, its a small MMA clothing store in Adelaide, just giving them some FREE Publicity.

I like the "ROCK" look more myself, and the long hair too.

I wouldnt go as far as saying unprofessional, it is hard work to do what we are doing, and for the little feedback we get, i have to "find" elsewhere on the net or hear-say...

thanks for watching tho. :)
appreciate it a lot. :)
