I will probably get crushed for this opinion, but I disagree with the walkout.
It does not sound like there was a change in the pay scale during the season, so the officials knew going into the season what they would be paid. If they were that unhappy with the pay, why start the season?
I am sure there is more to the story than is in the article, but to me this is the wrong way to handle this situation.
I am all for the officials being paid more. But they knew what the rates were at the beginning, and agreed to them (at least up to this point) what changed?
The fact that the administrators voted down a raise should have no impact at this point, because again, they knew going in what the pay was going to be, and agreed to work under those conditions.
Yes, taking the action at this point in the season does have a bigger impact than doing it in June, July, or August, but who is impacted most? Sure, the schools get hurt financially, but what about the players?
If, as is often said on this forum, it is about the kids, this action makes no sense.The kids have no responsibility in this situation, yet they are the ones being hurt the most.
Again, I fully understand the desire for higher pay. And I agree they should be paid more. I just think that they are going about it the wrong way.
