Dr. Mark Cousins was named the athletic director of the University Interscholastic League on Wednesday.

Cousins, who has been serving as the interim athletic director since late January, has been the UIL policy director since 2009.

He replaces Cliff Odenwald, who resigned Dec. 31 to pursue other career opportunities.

Cousins' duties will include overseeing and coordinating UIL athletic activities and reclassification and realignment.

A graduate of UT and Buna High School, Cousins has worked with the UIL since 1994. He worked as the director of several sports before taking over as the Policy Director.

"Dr. Mark Cousins has an extensive knowledge of the UIL Constitution & Contest Rules and a great understanding of UIL athletic programs," said UIL Executive Director Dr. Charles Breithaupt in a statement. "I have complete faith in Dr. Cousins in this new role, and I know that his leadership will help UIL athletics continue to succeed in the coming years."

Depends on whether or not you are a UIL official.

Buna High? Now that definitely does ring a bell! Looks as if that might be becoming the new prerequisite/standard in procuring executive employment over there on Manor Road. At least with two diploma's hanging on the Manor Road wall from Buna High, it looks like we just might get two tiphat: Good UIL Drs. for the price of one! But I don't really look for  tiphat: Good Time Charlie to share any of those pauper's wages/welfare of $215K that the state is pumping into his checking account. Now that ain't exactly a bad payday for a Buna High diploma!

So if high school basketball hasn't put Buna on the map already, then having two of the top UIL execs as graduates of that fine institution certainly should!    z^

Dr. B. is the issue make no mistake about it.  You want to get rid of a snake, the head must be removed.

Nobody on Manor Road burps, sneezes or exhales unless Doc B says so.

They (UIL) folks have always said, "We represent the schools and these are their requests."  The truth is they represent the schools and their requests after Dr. B. convinces them to go along with his way of thinking.  Anyone that does not pull the same line in the UIL office is gone.

As evidenced by Odenwald's strange departure, it is more than crystal that anyone that doesn't exactly tow the line and stringently adhere to the  gospel of the  tiphat:  Good UIL Dr. will soon be shown the front door over there on Manor Road. Cliff was somewhat lukewarm in his support for  tiphat: UIL Good Time Charlie and ended up having to find other digs for himself.  I would greatly suspect that the "New"  tiphat: UIL AD will heartily adopt the Manor Road  "stooge" mentality along with the  :!# UIL Director of Officials and will be totally spineless to even think about standing up to the  tiphat: Good UIL Dr.   Manor Road is clearly the exclusive domicile of the  tiphat: Good UIL Dr. and he has made it all too abundantly clear that if he's signing off on your paycheck, it is either his way or the highway!

And if you don't exactly agree with that line of reasoning, then try asking Cliff!   z^
