What do you guys think about this?  Would you be willing to stand with the Dallas guys and decline the invitation to work the state tournament?

TO:  All TASO Baseball Members
FROM: George Coit, President
SUBJECT: Uniform Policy
We have had a couple of incidents and questions in the past week or two regarding appropriate uniforms for games. This is just a reminder that the TASO-Baseball Operating Procedures establish a policy for uniforms to be worn for all UIL, TAPPS, and SPC games, up to and including the state playoffs. There are to be no deviations from this policy without approval from TASO-Baseball Board of Directors. That includes shirts (most, but not all, colors are approved), hats (TASO hats must be worn for all games), pants (gray - the word "heather" was removed last year), etc. A copy of the Operating Procedures and approved uniform policy is available on the TASO website in the Members section.
As we are now in the playoffs, it is even more critical that we follow our own policies concerning uniforms since many of our members will be officiating games for schools who they have not seen. Remember, you represent not only your chapter, but TASO as an organization.

On another topic, it has been brought to my attention that all of the crew members of the Dallas Chapter have, for a number of reasons, declined an invitation to officiate at the UIL State Baseball Tournament. One of the reasons cited was the UIL requirement that all officials would have to wear a UIL hat for all games, which would be a violation of TASO policies. Another was the pay. They said said that they were not being paid according to 1204 and that the amount povided was less than last year and may not be enough to cover the expenses for officials working the games, much less provide a reasonable game fee.

Although these were not not the only reasons they declined the invitation, it certainly merits distinction and my personal thanks for their desire to abide by TASO principles. While all of us aspire to work the state tournament and perhaps even call the "big" game, I applaud this group of individuals who put TASO before their own ambitions and desires.

If you have any questions concerning this, please contact me.

It appears there is a bit of inconsistency, considering that several crews working state championship UIL football games wore UIL hats.

And certainly not the Houston Chapter in its championship game at Jerryworld! Congratulations to all involved for taking a strong stand for TASO and exercising the courage to stand up to the   tiphat: Good UIL Dr., his :!# Uncultured Chimpanzee,(and with apologies, of course, to all other chimpanzee's),  and to all of the other  :bOW UIL Minions of Manor Road!    z^

I'm with the Dallas guys (and TASO). Good job men!

The UIL needs to stay out of officiating... PERIOD!
