A "Legal" Pick Play (video)

I guess I should not be surprised..but this is a guy who until recently was seen as a successful Div 1 coach.  Maybe becoming a talking head took some of his brain away.

Legal??? maybe because they are viewing this same as a screen pass i assume since the ball was caught at or in the expanded neutral zone grey area where most consider it to be  behind the line of the scrimmage

So to the real questions:

1.  Is this pass considered to be a forward pass that crossed the NZ?
2.  And if yes, what are the suggested mechanics to get the block that's just beyond the NZ?

I've frozen the video halfway to Sunday. I've got the receiver one yard BEYOND the line of scrimmage and the ball released just BEFORE the hit. Were I there in the middle and it happened right in front of me, I would have had a flag. And I probably would have had Rod ragging me for the call the rest of the afternoon about flagging a "legal" pick. But I wouldn't have been fearing my evaluation on Monday.

It is clear from Rod's explanation, he is not even considering the NZ.  His "point" is the hit was before the ball was released.  That is immaterial.

I'm not really interested in the rules ignorance of the talking head, but interested in the two questions that the case play highlights:

1.  Is this pass considered to be a forward pass that crossed the NZ?
2.  And if yes, what are the suggested mechanics to get the block that's just beyond the NZ?

We can agree for discussion that the receiver is approximately 1 yard +/- beyond the NZ when he catches the ball, and the block is just beyond that.  Whose call would this normally be with 7 man mechanics and in 5 man mechanics?

Secondary question

The outside receiver and safety are seen at the end of the clip 'chicken dancing' I guess you could say.
Would you guys flag that as a hold? It looks like the safety is really trying tocome up to make the tackle and can't disengage.

B's key at the snap...and he should stay with him as he goes accross the middle
