Seems that this has nothing to do with the fight.  I still haven't seen what caused the fight to start.

Wow, that's crazy. The look on the WH's face when the kid comes running up to him is priceless. Anyone know how many ejections they had?

With the benches clearing, how were there enough players left to finish the game?

That kid has better mechanics and uniform than some people I've worked games with.

You know, when I first saw the guy running towards R, I thought it was the H. - with his pants rolled up.
Too bad NCAA FB does not have the "if you leave the bench you're ejected" rule.

Looks like they only tossed two.

Nick Foles threw for 291 yards and hit Juron Criner for three touchdown passes in the first half, helping Arizona overwhelm UCLA 48-12 in Tucson on Thursday night in its first game under interim coach Tim Kish.

With nine days off since coach Mike Stoops was fired Oct. 10, the Wildcats (2-5, 1-4 Pac-12) looked unstoppable, getting surprising lifts from their running game and defense to end a five-game losing streak.

Arizona ran for 254 of its season-high 573 yards, and Taimi Tutogi ran for a pair of TDs as the Wildcats built a 35-point halftime lead.

The Bruins (3-4, 2-2) couldn't withstand the emotion of a team playing under a new coach and may have put theirs, Rick Neuheisel, in jeopardy with a lackluster effort.

One of the nation's best rushing teams, UCLA had 37 yards on 25 carries against a team that was 100th in the nation at 196 yards per game.

Frustration boiled over in the closing seconds of the first half, when a wild brawl spread about 60 yards across the field after a streaker body-painted to look like an official ran onto the field.

Players pushed and shoved, a few wild punches were thrown, and two players were ejected: Arizona defensive back Shaquille Richardson and UCLA receiver Taylor Embree

Too bad NCAA FB does not have the "if you leave the bench you're ejected" rule.

They do.

9-5-1-c

Quote
c. During either half, coaches or substitutes shall not leave their team area to
participate in a fight, nor shall they participate in a fight in their team area.

Evidently both in TX and at the college level, "participate in" is loosely interpreted.

Why do TV announcers always make the comment: "And of course, we're not going to show this idiot who ran on the field...?" It doesn't seem like NOT being on TV is stopping people from doing this, so why not? At least it's fun to see players/coaches/officials take the dude out.

Pretty ingenious method by the guy, I agree, I thought he WAS the official. Had to re-watch to see where he came from.

In TX, if you leave the bench, you're gone for the rest of the game.  That's why I said, how did they have enough to finish this game?  Both benches cleared.  I guess they decided not to enforce that since the game could not have continued.

There were a few high profile altercations like this last year in TX and I don't believe anybody except maybe the two instigators were tossed.  I think one of them involved Longview and another team but I'm doing well to remember last week sometimes.  ;D

Using the rule you pointed out, 9-5-1-c, it would seem that if an entire team bench cleared for a fight, the game would have to be suspended.  So, I guess not enforcing that rule when the entire team would have to be ejected might be the best approach in certain situations.  But, if it were bad enough, I would suspend the game and let the UIL figure it out.

I saw a video that showed a group of 6 guys, (3 on ea team, looked like near the L ) who came together in the confusion during the dead ball right after dumb arse ran on the field.  They were jawing at one another and then one pushed another and it was on.  The L had come in inside of them so could not break them up before it got physical.

This is not unusual (benches cleared and few ejections).  It apparently comes down to "participate in a fight".  That means more than just coming off the bench onto the field.  However, being on the field without permission is an unsportsmanlike conduct and giving one of those to every number you could get would help guarantee they go bye bye if they commit another Uns conduct.

When it gets to that point I guess you just start narrating into your digital recorder as to what you are seeing and numbers of guys who are actually throwing punches.  If they are just pushing and shoving or posturing, I guess they get off scot free.  I think you could also give everyone who came on the field an Uns Conduct.  That way they would have 1 and if they did something else you could toss them

Nice tackle by the officer, though. Would be real afraid of helmet-to-helmet contact in that situation.  :o

Appears PAC-12 was not happy with what happended at the game

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. — The Pac-12 Conference suspended 10 players Friday for their involvment in a fight that occurred during the first half of the UCLA-Arizona football game Thursday night.

Bruins wide receiver Taylor Embree and Arizona cornerback Shaquille Richardson were penalized by game officials for unsportsmanlike conduct and ejected from the contest for fighting with 4 seconds left in the first half. They both will have to sit out an additional game.

UCLA defensive tackle Cassius Marsh was given a two-game ban while receivers Randall Carroll, Shaq Evans, and Ricky Marvray each received a game. Guard Alberto Cid will have to sit for a half.

Arizona nickleback Jourdan Grandon will miss a game while cornerback Lyle Brown and safety Mark Watley each will sit a half.

and the law aint too happy with the streaker...

(CBS) – Jace Lankow, an undergraduate at the University of Arizona could face up to one and half years in jail after being charged with a class six felony for criminal impersonation.

Lankow dressed up as a referee and ran onto the field at Arizona Stadium on Thursday night during a football game featuring the Wildcats and UCLA Bruins.

While he was streaking, a brawl ensued between the two Pac-12 South schools, resulting in 10 players being suspended by the conference.

“The Conference is extremely disappointed in the actions of the student-athletes involved in this incident,” Commissioner Larry Scott said in a statement. “It is unacceptable behavior and violated Conference rules, as well as NCAA fighting rules.

“I have taken these actions today because it is imperative that we hold our student-athletes and coaches to the highest standards of sportsmanship.”

The suspensions will occur during each school’s next scheduled game. UCLA plays Saturday, Oct. 29 against California, while Arizona’s next game is at Washington that day.
