A12 scores on a running play on the last timed down in the 4th quarter. The TD ties the score 6-6. During A12's run, B1 is guilty of grabbing and twisting A12's facemask. Is A's only option to have B's penalty enforced on the try? Or, since we know have a tie game, can A request (as an insurance policy if they miss the kick try) to have the penalty enforced during OT, if we have OT?
If I understand 8.2.2 correctly, the answer would be no since there is no subsequent "kick-off" to enforce from. It would have to be enforced on the try. If this is the case, does anyone know what the philosophy is behind not allowing this enforcement into OT of a penalty on a TD such as this, but if the foul by B was on a game tying FG (say roughing the kicker), the foul would bridge into OT since we have a succeeding spot 8.4.3.b
Thanks in advance, I've been a lurker for awhile now and have gleamed all kinds of information from all of you.
