playoff uniform protocol
« on: November 16, 2011, 03:40:08 AM »
Did I notice a Tyler crew working a high school playoff game with a 7 man crew and wearing their college officiating shirts?

Just so this doesn't get out of hand, the decision was made within the crew that night and no one in an official capacity with the chapter approved it, knew it had happened (until receiving an email fom TASO), or would have given them permission to do so!!

Oh, they could go ahead and cop a plea of certain insanity by just saying that the  :!# Dancing Monkey of  :bOW Manor Road gave them express permission to don those stripes for that game! After all, when TASO says "No,"  :bOW Manor Road will say "Yes!"  z^

The bigger stripes make the R look skinnier.  Did he eat his Umpire for dinner?  My god the uniform does not get you any more credit with the coach, but being in shape will.

Sorry TexDoc for removing your post, but this wasnt the place to name the officials involved.  It will be handled internally by TASO.

Was the post more about the striped shirts or the 7 man crew ?
The Flower mound Marcus v Fossil Ridge at Dallas Cowboy Stadium had a 7 man college crew, but they wore the  " TASO " approved stripes.
I like the 7 man crew idea.

Was this game televised? The crew also has position placards on their 'illegal shirts.' double whammy?

I would have to disagree with Yogi's post that any Chapter would have given permission for a crew to wear college shirts.  Position placards are optional according to the book but on the approved shirt but why bring more attention to your self than necessary?  Everyone has been informed on a multitude of occasions (clinics/meetings) that things in Texas High School Football are to be done by the mechanics book.  Some just tend to be rebels and this is not the arena to be a rebel.

from on or around the 7th of September...

Quote

ALL OFFICIALS WORKING TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL VARSITY GAMES MUST WEAR THE APPROVED UNIFORM.

Unless approved by the TASO-Football Board of Directors, officials may not work varsity football games in anything other than the approved uniform.  You are permitted to wear knickers or long black pants, but no other variations are allowed.

It has come to my attention that some officials are working high school games wearing an NCAA collegiate shirt with 2” stripes.  THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE AND MUST STOP IMMEDIATELY!

The NFL and NCAA purposely adopted shirts that are unique to their level of play.  It is inappropriate for high school officials to wear an NCAA or NFL shirt while working high school games.  The required uniform is clearly described the TASO mechanics manual and the UIL and TAPPS fully support the requirement that Texas high school football officials wear a 1” stripe shirt, not the 2” stripped NCAA collegiate shirt.

There will be no exceptions made.

Sure looks like he said the following:  No one approved it.  No one knew about it.  No one would have given permission if they did know about it.

I would have to disagree with Yogi's post that any Chapter would have given permission for a crew to wear college shirts.
Just don't see how you get that from what he said.

I like the 7 man crew idea.

We have used 7 man crews twice in the playoffs.  We offer it to all of them.  We just wear regular stripes.

I apologize to those guys that were named.  We all have lapses in judgment, and I posted their names.  That's a joke in case you didn't catch it.

^flagThese boys need to be benched for the remainder of the playoffs, and next post-season as well.  Willful disregard of the uniform standards to advance the perception of your crew as "big time" is simply unacceptable from those who are charged with enforcing the rules.

This crew is working a 3A game this week in Weatherford.  I highly doubt they wear the same shirts.

It is perplexing they would have chosen to do it last weekend since the TASO directive (which I think was reinforced even by the UIL) had been out for awhile already.  Hopefully it was a case of the 10% who never get the word and not a deliberate snubbing of the nose.

Hey, i have a sidebar question regading unis...chain crew uni is white polo, knickers, socks, black shoes. I had a colleague ask about what we can wear if it gets COLD. What are our regulations on cold weather attire on the chains?

It is also perplexing that this crew break a rule for whatever reason and then receives another game assignment.  This will only lead to more crews (big timing it) to get more games.  I am sure there is another crew in their chapter that is capable of handling that game.  Even if it is just for one week it would send an appropriate message.

I would like to see the chain crew wearing black pants.  We are making the first and second year guys waste money on knickers and socks.  Is it TASO required that chain crew wear white knickers?
