Regulations about goals
« on: November 17, 2011, 05:08:07 AM »
Due to interest from National Sports Center, which manages Polish National Stadium, I'm searching for regulations about football goals, their construction, placement or possible certifications.

Will be thankful if any of you could provide me with some information or publications or direct to relevant bodies.

Assuming that most of Europe seems to use NCAA rules, this link is a free PDF download from NCAA.

Quote
Goals
ARTICLE 5. a. Each goal shall consist of two white or yellow uprights
extending at least 30 feet above the ground with a connecting white or yellow
horizontal crossbar, the top of which is 10 feet above the ground. The inside of
the uprights and crossbar shall be in the same vertical plane as the inside edge
of the end line. Each goal is out of bounds (see Appendix D).
b. Above the crossbar, the uprights shall be white or yellow and 18 feet, six
inches apart inside to inside.
c. The designated uprights and crossbar shall be free of decorative material
(Exception: 4-inch-by-42-inch orange or red wind directional streamers at
the top of the uprights are permitted).
d. The height of the crossbar shall be measured from the top of each end of the
crossbar to the ground directly below.
e. Goal posts shall be padded with resilient material from the ground to a
height of at least six feet. Advertising is prohibited on the goals. One
manufacturer’s logo or trademark is permitted on each goal post pad.
Institutional and conference logos are allowed.
f. The home team is responsible for the availability of a portable goal if
original goals are removed during the game for any reason

KW

There is a company in the USA that makes a convertible soccer goal.  It is a regulation soccer goal, then it has an additional bar at the 10 ft level with holders to attach the uprights.  It's used at many multi-use high school stadiums here.

Guys, I'm looking for something more accurate than Rule 1 and only about real football goals. Something like technical specification which goals need to meet to be approved for NCAA and NFL games.

For the sake of completeness....

NFL:

Section 3 Goal

CROSSBAR
In the plane of each end line there shall be a centrally placed horizontal Crossbar 18 feet, 6 inches in length, the top face of which is 10 feet above the ground. The goal is the vertical plane extending indefinitely above the crossbar and between the lines indicated by the outer edges of the goal posts.

GOAL POSTS
All goal posts will be the single-standard type, offset from the end line and bright gold in color. The uprights will extend 30 feet above the crossbar and will be no less than 3 inches and no more than 4 inches in diameter. An orange-colored ribbon 4 inches by 42 inches is to be attached to the top of each post.

Note: Goal posts must be padded in a manner prescribed by the League.

The post that holds the crossbar and uprights is placed in the ground 6' 3" behind the endline.  Each upright is 70' 9" from the sideline.

NFHS (high school):

The goal:
a . The goal is the vertical plane midway between the sidelines extending indefinitely above the inside of the uprights and the front edge of the crossbar and in the same vertical plane as the inside edge of the end line.
b. The top of the crossbar shall be 10 feet above the ground, measured from the base of each upright to the top of the crossbar at the intersection, or at each end of the crossbar perpendicular to the ground when a single pedestal is used.
c. The crossbar shall be 23 feet, 4 inches long.
d. The uprights shall be 23 feet, 4 inches apart inside to inside and each upright may not exceed 4 inches in width. NOTE: It is permissible to use college or professional fields with goal post uprights set at the width specified by their respective codes.
e. The uprights shall extend a minimum of 10 feet above the crossbar.
f. The goal posts shall be padded with resilient, shock absorbing material to a height of at least 6 feet above the ground.
g. The horizontal crossbar and the uprights above it shall be free from any decorative material except paint which is recommended to be either silver, white or yellow in color. One wind directional streamer may be attached to the top of each upright. Wind directional streamers shall be 4 inches in width, 42 inches in length and either red, orange, or yellow in color.

HLinNC...

I think that is what he is looking for...construction specs...not rule requirements.

You might find these conversions useful:

6 and 5/8 inches: 16.8cm (Diameter of offset pole and crossbar from HLinNC's link)
4 inches: 10.16cm (Diameter of uprights from same link)

10 feet: 3.05 metres (Height of NCAA crossbar)
30 feet: 9.15 metres (Height of NCAA uprights)
18 feet 6 inches: 5.6 metres (Width between NCAA uprights)

6 feet: 1.83m (Possible distance of offset between crossbar and base of offset pole)
8 feet: 2.44m (Another possible offset distance)

74 inches: 1.88m (Depth of socket below ground level from HLinNC's link)
36 inches: 0.91m (Width of socket + concrete from same link)
