Stagg Bowl Crew Position Switch

During the Stagg Bowl last night, the official who worked as Head Linesman in the first half changed positions with the Line Judge for the second half.  He also apparently changed shirts at halftime, and both of them were wearing "L" in the second half.  Does anyone know what was going on there?

You sure it was the same guy? It could have been the AO wearing an L shirt had to go into the game b/c on an injury.

I'd suggest a minor injury. I once worked deep side in a six-man crew, AAAA high-school game, and had someone cleat me ... didn't totally screw up my mobility, but hampered me. After a few plays leter, I swapped with the line judge so I didn't have to run as much.

Didn't get home and turn the game on until the 3rd quarter, but it was definitely the alternate working L at that point, and for the rest of the game. He hails from the ODAC/USAS, and isn't any of the names listed in the box score (great job Tom!).

The H suffered a concussion in the 1st half and it was determined at half time that he couldn't continue. In fact he was taken to a local hospital to be checked out. The L moved to H and the AO went to L.

The crew was from the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. (SCIAC)

What a shame.  The guy has worked his whole career to get this "pinnacle game" and to have this happen is just unfortunate.  I hope he's OK..  Congrats to the crew for the assignment and job well done.

Agreed.  Any idea how he suffered the concussion and if he's okay?

That's as bad as the Colt McCoy problem last week.  If he suffered a concussion, he should have been evaluated before waiting until half time to decide he couldn't continue.  Trainers should be aware of injuries to all participants, including the officials.

The interval between the injury that causes the concussion and evaluation is critical, and should be as minimal as possible.
