Apparently ESPN is Watching

Appears ESPN has heard our recurring  suggestion the networks include someone who actually knows the rules on their broadcast teams. The last few bowl games have included current or retired officials in the booth .  They had Steve Shaw one night, a retired guy (Big 10?) another and last night they had an active ACC R in the booth. hopefully that is the model for the rest of the bowl season.

All post season games have someone assigned to the booth to work with TV. I worked a game in DC and Doug Rhoads from the ACC was part of our pregame and in the booth during the game. I also had an opportunity to work a game where Jim Blackwood from the WAC was working with TV. The supervisor from the MWC was at the LV Bowl last night.

Walter Davenport was the Replay Communicator at the game.

I was just as shocked.

Davenport was there paid by the conference and not the bowl as the TV booth official and not the replay communicator to answer any questions the TV guys care to ask. Some ask, others do not use this resource.
All the bowls have someone in the booth, they are not always used so you would not know they are there. They are normally from the conference that sends the crew but not always.
