I don't get it. This is a catch but the gunner  was deemed not to have caught the punt at the GL in another bowl game.  What is possession?  And don't you have to have it BEFORE you are touching OOB in order to have a catch/recovery?

I would have to agree that this is a catch.  Not sure what punt you are talking about but the one I saw in an earlier game at the goalline, I thought was possession also.  That ball should of been place on the one.  MHO of course.

Yep that is the one    I am all for calling this receiver's action a catch if the punt was also caught

To me the the ball is moving on his chest when he finally grabs the ball to secure it with his left hand.  By the time the ball is firmly controlled his left shoulder is out of bounds.

At 1:22 is appears the ball is still moving just before his shoulder hits the white. I think that replay would have stuck with "no catch" if that was what was ruled on the field. Not enough to overturn either call IMO also.

Was  this catch review. And if it was How in the world did the review crew miss this .Jason was right his left shoulder was out of bounds when the receiver final CONTROL the ball

I agree his shoulder is above the white but I don't see that it is touching the ground.  Maybe it is, maybe it isn't.  Gotta stick with the call on the field.  "The ruling on the field stands."

On the kick play the gunner has the ball at the start then it quickly comes loose as he is is going to the ground, so he clearly does not have control at the end of the play.  The judgment call was that he did not meet the requirements through the end of the possession and control process. 

The pass play is the reverse - he clearly does not have possession or control at the start, then gains control at the end of the play, the judgment call here is that possession and control was secured while on the ground prior to contact with OB and I agree that there is nothing on the video that would overturn that judgment.

I think the "WIQ" in a meaningless bowl game should be "complete".  It was a helluva athletic play!

To preface, I'm a FSU alum & former player there.
I saw this while enjoying a cold beverage @a local establishment last night.  I didn't think the ball stopped moving when the shoulder went OOB.

"Moving" and "Lack or loss of control" are two different things. There can be, and often is, movement of the ball while it is still in control.

Here, the player initially establishes firm control with his right forearm pinning the ball to his chest and is still inbounds. Replay would have to show the movement of the ball after that resulted in a clear loss of control, such as the arm coming off the ball, as he continues out of bounds. I don't see that as happening, but it is close. I would have let the ruling on the field stand regardless of whether the ruling was catch or incomplete.

Is it the same standard on kicks and passes?  There seems to be a school of thought that, on kicks, as soon as the ball is controlled in the hands of K the ball is immediately dead at that spot (even if he is going to the ground).
