TAPPS has adopted a mercy rule starting next school year in football and basketball

Heard about this the other day. I agree. I would love to see this in UIL contests. I just think it creates an environment where injuries are less likley to occur amoung other things.

How would the rule apply to TAPPS vs UIL school games?

Good thing for a Chapter Board to iron out in the Summer but my guess would be you go with home team's rules.

I think that's exactly what the Beaumont Enterprise article alluded to: if the game is played at a TAPPS venue, then those special rules sanctioned by TAPPS would go into effect. Conversely, at a UIL venue, then UIL rules would take precedence.

But overall, I think it is a very good rule to have implemented. It really makes me wonder why  :bOW Manor Road hasn't come up with something comparable. Oh! That's right; their primary focus these days seems to be aimed at looking for new and exciting ways to generate revenue in order to help perpetuate its power!   z^

Probably not a lot for me...................... Do it the same way I have been doing all along with a team up by 40+             ;D

I guess a running clock means it starts on the ready coming out of a time out?

When we have a game where the Coaches agree on a running clock I usually wind it on the ready coming out of a timeout. Jut my way.

And if you really suspect that the game has all of the earmarks of being a real butt-kicking, then just go ahead and wind the clock at the coin-toss!   z^

Brings to memory of when i first started and I was workin' 25 sec clock @ Dyer.
Game clock was workin' by a current veteran white hat (who shall remain nameless) ^talk
The game was between Bellaire and a "weaker sister" HISD.
In the 3rd qtr he told me - I can make that 8 a 6 (referring to minutes) and Bingo - he popped it on the scoreboard unnoticed  :!#
Then he in 4th qtr he told me: watch this 5 turn into a 3  cRaZy
I couldn't believe it but as they said it "Good Fellas"
"And that's that" yEs:

Same scenario over at HISD's Butler Stadium all throughout my storied career. It certainly wasn't unusual at all to see a 4th Quarter "11" in the minutes column fall all the way down to a "6" or "7" without the clock ever even having to cease running; but this was contingent, of course, upon the severity of the butt-kicking that was being administered at the time. Even as a wingman in my very early years, I fully expected my sideline to see it and to immediately start belly-aching. True to its nature, nary a word was ever said!   z^

With most of those clocks all you have to do is

Hit Clock Set
type in the new time
Stop the clock
hit enter
Start the clock

I must say I have done that about 1000 times in my career.  980 of them were Friendswood Little Dribbler basketball assignments.  However, it may have happened with some FB clocks at some point.

Then there are the clock operators that turn the clock on at the start of the second half and then disappear to the concession stand for a while.

Speak of concession stand - can't forget when I worked a SV game @ Barnett.
At a time out, the official ran to the stand , got a bag of popcorn and preceeded to "chow down" as the game was on and he the one blowing it.

I need to keep this move in my hip pocket.
