Helmet off announcement

Is there any need to announce that a player must leave the game because of their helmet coming off??

I don't think so.  We do not announce when they are leaving due to inury or blood.   That beng said, I am watching the MEAc/SWAC game and he has announced it twice.  Di dnot se eit announced once yesterday  Maybe it is a conference-specific deal

I totally agree I don't see the reason why. One of my crew said they saw a couple games on TV where they were doing it but I have not seen any comments whether to or not to.

Thanks

I announce it to remind players to keep a check on their equipment - not only chin straps but all equipment.

In some of our discussions, one of my supervisors felt we should announce when someone does NOT have to leave the game if the helmet off was due to a penalty. Mainly, this is for the other team/coach so they don't ask why he's not going out.

Sure enough, first game we had a foul involving the helmet of the QB and since he did not have to leave the game, we announced the foul and then something to the effect of 'since the quarterback's helmet came off as a result of the penalty, he is not required to leave the game'. Don't know if it helped but since you were on the mic anyway, didn't hurt.

BCU certainly doesn't understand the new kick-off formation requirement

Some FBS conferences want an announcement. Making an announcement isn't necessarily mandatory, but it does at least two positive things: 1) It reinforces the rule by making everyone aware of the violation and the violator, and 2) it lets the media (TV talking heads, in particular) know what's going on so they can sound smart by talking about the new rule. Since the clock is stopped, it takes nothing away from the game to make the quick announcement. The crew can record the number, to make sure he doesn't try to return.
Saw it happen three times Thursday night, with an announcement made each time. Smooth as glass. With luck, the frequency will decline dramatically, and the occasional announcement won't disrupt the game to any significance.

Definitely agree to announce if the flag caused the helmet to come off. I will ask the supervisor in regards to the other situations
