Formation of Kicking Team
« on: September 18, 2012, 09:36:35 PM »
We've had some discussion tonight about how the kicking team players who do not kick the ball must position themselves relative to the line 5 yards behind their Free Kick line. If the ball is kicked from the 35 and the players place one foot behind the 30 yard line, does the other foot have to be touching the 30 yard line to constitute a legal formation?  What if the other foot is clearly in front of the 30 yard line and not touching the line?

All A players other than the kicker have to be positioned with at least one foot NO MORE than 5 yards behind his restraining line. He can be as far forward of that as he chooses. But, if one foot is completely behind the yard line that is 5-yard behind his restraining line, the other foot must be touching that line OR be BEYOND that line. Some part of one foot touching the line is as far behind his restraining line as he is allowed to get. But he is not required to have either or both feet touching the line - he just can't have both feet entirely behind it.
