What is the NCAA rule when the runners helmet comes off. Is the ball dead like in NFHS or does play continue. Situation Saturday, QB drops back to pass, has helmet ripped off by defender (flag thrown) then QB steps forward throws pass down field. Crew has flag for ineligible downfield so they offset penalties. I know in NF we would blow play dead when the QB's helmet came off so there never was an ineligible downfield and no offsetting penalty. Just wondering what the college rule says.
