Elgible receiver???
« on: September 24, 2012, 03:57:58 PM »
Has this in a game this weekend and am having trouble finding the rule in the book.  Right end lined up as a wideout and a flanker lined up in the backfield in the slot.  Another back lined up in the slot between the end and flanker but on the line of scrimmage.   Basically, trips right but two were on the line and one in the backfield.  The end and flanker who was in the backfield went downfield for a pass but the man on the line in the slot moved backwards as if to catch a pass behind the line.    I had nothing on the play as the two on my side were down field legally and the man who lined up in the slot never went down field.   However, could the man who lined up in the slot and was on the line of scrimmage (but not on the end) been eligible to legally catch a pass behind the LOS?

(NCAA) No.
Quote from: 7-3-3-c
c. When the ball is snapped, the following Team A players are eligible:
1. Each lineman who is on the end of his scrimmage line and who is
wearing a number other than 50 through 79.
2. Each back wearing a number other than 50 through 79.

He is neither of those, therefore not eligible to catch a (any) forward pass.

Same requirements in NFHS, and same answer.

Pretending to be eligible (to catch a screen pass or any other) is not a foul. :)
