End of my Season/ Beginning of next season
« on: November 29, 2014, 01:19:58 PM »
I worked the last game of my season last night. Semifinal playoff game. I will not be doing finals this year because I have to be out of town next week. All in all it was a great season season. Ended up doing 30 games over 14 weeks. Our association takes December off but will start planning meetings for leadership in January and we will have monthly off season rules study meetings once a month starting in February so we never really stop.

Do other associations have off season meetings?

I also worked my last game for the season this past week. Lucky enough it was a state championship game! My association always meets the first week of DEC. to get all our admin. stuff worked out. W usually meet once a month from Jan - may. In June we really get after it meeting once a week til the end of the regular season. So we really have no off time either. Our association really pushes on field, off field (classroom) and clinic training.

I have tried small off season-meetings in the past but so many guys transition from football to basketball to baseball / softball that the ones that are serious about officiating just don't have time.  The NCAA guys start meeting in March here, I think.

Our off season meetings are optional because many do basketball and baseball/softball. We switch around the night of the week so everyone can usually attend one or two meetings.

Our off- season "meetings" occur on a bimonthly basis. Our "meeting" room consists of several tables pushed together at a local sports pub. The same pub hosts "post-game reviews" every Friday night during the season, so the waitresses know what to expect. Upcoming topics are:
January meeting  - "Would you like these changes? " - feature speaker - me
March  meeting - "How do you like these changes?"- feature speaker - me
May meeting - "Is this the Red Sox year?" - feature speaker -TBA
Chapter membership : aprox 50 ; attendance at these meetings : aprox 20-25
Attention paid to topic presentation : low ;Enjoyment factor : high
PS : the attitude of our chapter is great , most are enjoyable, fun-raising meetings, and the friendships that develop during the season carry on for most throughout the year.
