We can’t even deal with drones yet and now they come up with this?  ?  ?  ??  Do the rules say that a player has to be human?

Can we be that far away from painting stripes on that dummy, adding a real time video feed, connected to somebody in a comfortable office, who could remotely fire flags when necessary.  You could also paint legs and short skirts on dummies and eliminate cheerleaders, but you lose a lot in......enthusiasm.

Be careful what you wish for.

Been saying it for years, it ain't that long until all the officials will be in a booth.   I did think there were always be one of us on the field to place the ball down for the team. Appears they may not even need that any longer. This robot can do it for us.

While I would vehemently oppose that said automation of our beloved sports, I do feel potential of opening our human games to any member of the mammal kingdom. I've often felt a dead/dazed cow would make an excellent ice hockey goalie. The goal is 6' X 4' and most cows would exceed that. If you could teach Jean Claude and Pere to ride horses and horses to wear skates, a new dimension would be added to our hockey scene. As for our beloved sport of football, in this era of concussion awareness I would be leery of allowing any mammal exceeding 500 lbs to participate at a contact level ; however, giraffes should be allowed to stand in front of the goal posts on field goal attempts. The footballs could appear a tasty snack to them.

Time for lunch....

IN THE YEAR 2525.......

Forgive me for reverting to "Old School", but instead of relying on new technology, maybe looking backwards might provide answers.  In the days (forgive me) before face masks, players were taught to collide without using their heads as a battering ram.  Combining the advances made in protective head gear, with renewed focus on teaching (and enforcing) avoiding contact with the head may make 2025 just another year to enjoy our game, pretty much as we know it.

Putting the "Blow your opponent up" genie back inside it's bottle is likely going to take a while, but like most worthwhile solutions, it will prove worth the effort.  To a large degree, Rule Makers, Coaches and Officials are already on board pointing in the right direction.  Now, if only ESPN, Sportscenter and all the local TV outlets would STOP highlighting the daily "10 Best/Biggest Hits" and glamorizing "mistakes", the process of reducing head injuries would move a lot faster.

Good luck with that. If it bleeds, it leads.  hEaDbAnG

Agree 100%  And as Rulesman said, ain't gonna happen.  "News" reporting is worse than it has ever been.  No wonder the sports reporting is just as bad in its own realm.

Yep.  But I'm not holding my breath waiting for it to happen.
