We lost a great official

This is from Duane Morgan, the Commissioner of the Central Coast Section for CIF:
"It is with a heavy heart that I inform you of some bad news.  Long time, retired, CCS Assistant Commissioner Steve Stearns passed away on Thursday, June 9th.  Speaking to Kathy, his wife,  he was by the pool relaxing and when she came back to the area he was non responsive.  Kathy is surrounded by the family.  I am sure I speak for us all that we have last a true advocate for student-athletes and a true friend to many of us."

Steve was a valued member of NCOA as well, and was always willing to help where he could.  Football has indeed lost a true friend.

Steve was the California Rules Interpreter and rep to NFHS. I learned a lot from him. He will be missed.

I knew Steve well during his position on the NFHS Football Rules Committee. He was very well respected and liked. My heartfelt condolences to his family and all of the officials whose lives he touched.
