Cleaning my hat
« on: November 01, 2016, 09:07:57 AM »
What is the best way to clean my hat so the black doesn't fade? Its starting to look dingy after a long season in the Mississippi humidity. I'm going to buy a new one for next season but wanted to finish this season out with this one.

Thanks

Put it in the hat cage, wash in the washer, gentle cycle, with color bleach. Make sure you wash it by itself.

this time of year, cant be too many games remaining.
wipe it off with a wet washcloth..plain ole water.
If that does not suffice, mix 50/50 wanter and vinegar.

UV rays likely did most of the damage to the color. Spray it w/ spray and wash lightly and throw it into the top of the dishwasher. Drip dry

I've had success just spraying it with Oxi Clean and rubbing with a paper towel.

I put mine in a hat cage and run it through the dishwasher and let it drip dry

How often are you guys:
1) cleaning your hat?
2) replacing your hat?

I tend to put my hats in a cage and run through the washing machine and hang dry once a week after my last game each week.

I feel like they break down after about 2 seasons to the point where I replace them.  Maybe its the Marine in me, but I refuse to wear a hat that looks dirty or ragged.
Coach: "I've been doing this 30 years!  I know the rules!"
Ref: "Are you married coach?"
Coach (suddenly offguard): "umm...yeah, why?"
Ref: "I've been married 30 years and my wife says there is still room for improvement"
Coach: "<silence>"

replace: annually

Mine rarely get "dirty".  The problem I run into is the hat fading to a brownish color.  Nothing you can do about that other than buy a new one.  Seems to be a yearly thing.

Black hats are easier to clean than white hats---the same holds true for towels.
