Inadvertent Whistle
« on: August 04, 2019, 07:10:44 AM »
I can't speak for the rest of the country but here in SC. an inadvertent whistle has its consequences outside of the personal shame one goes through. Depending on the circumstances, let's say during the regular season an official may sit out the next week to a quick toot during the playoffs will end your season. With that being said our new rules have instances where there is a "silent" wind. My question is; If the wind is not so silent is this to be considered an IW?

I'm sure we'll get a number of these with the rule change but since the ball is not live it can't be an inadvertent whistle.  :)
Team A may look over and wonder what the whistle was for but we'll eventually master this just like all of the other changes.  We've been using the "silent wind" for our semi-pro men's leagues for years in the New England area and it works fine.  Just another mechanic to master.

Might be an opportunity to check with the Umpire about his shoelaces, or verify the down with the HL, then reset the RFP.

South Carolina is an extremely backwards state in terms of how officiating is organized.

An IW in a playoff game ending your season sounds reasonable to me.

Did for me.  And it cost me a playoff game the next year.  Of course, one of the crew members on that playoff game was our incoming assigner, so I would have been surprised if it hadn't.
