S/B 2022 Quiz 6
« on: August 04, 2022, 10:22:18 PM »
Let me have it.

1. 2/10 @ B-15. Airborne A88 has firm control of a legal forward pass deep in the end zone. While still airborne nine yards deep in the end zone, A88 is contacted by B21 and comes to the ground just out of bounds beyond the end line and maintains control of the ball.
RULING:
3/10, B-15, snap (40 and running).
Incomplete pass. A88 did not return to the ground inbounds.

2. 1/10 @ A-25. Receiver A88 is near the sideline at the A-40 and is stretching to catch a legal forward pass. As A88 is going to the ground in the act of catching the pass, A88 gains firm control of the ball with toes down inbounds, bobbles the ball while airborne, regains firm control before landing out of bounds, and maintains firm control when landing.
RULING:
2/10, A-25, snap (40 and running).
Incomplete pass. The receiver must hold the ball firmly during the entire catch process.

3. 4/G @ B-3. QB A12 takes the snap from under center and from the B-5, pitches the ball back to A44 who muffs the ball at the B-7. Tight end A88 recovers the ball at the B-7 and runs the ball into Team B’s end zone.
RULING:
A, try, B-3. No clock (40 and running).
A88 may recover and advance a ball loose from a backward pass.

4. 3/10 @ A-25. Team A leads by 2 points with the clock running late in the game and neither team has timeouts remaining. Ball carrier A21 is tackled after gaining 1 yard. B79 goes to the ground immediately after the play with an injury and the officials stop the game clock, which shows 12 seconds.
RULING:
A, 4/9, A-26, 0:02 (after 10-second subtraction), ready (no play clock).
The injury to B79 qualifies for a 10SS, which Team A will accept.

5. 2/10 @ B-40. Playing late in the 4th quarter, the game is tied and neither team has a time out remaining. Runner A22’s helmet comes off inbounds at the B-35 (no helmet foul by the defense) and B77 goes down with an injury. When the clock is stopped it reads 0:58.
RULING:
A, 3/5, B-35, 0:58 (4), ready (40).
The game clock stops when A22’s helmet comes off. Since B77 is also injured, there is no option for a 10SS. The play clock is set to 40-seconds, and both clocks start on the referee’s signal.

6. 3/4 @ 50. With the clock running after the ball is made ready for play and before the snap, B60 charges across the neutral zone and contacts snapper A50. A61 then commits a personal foul against B60.
RULING:
A, 3/14 1/10, A-40, ready (25).
The DOF foul and the UNR foul are penalized in the order of their occurrence. The penalties (5-yard DOF, and 15-yard UNR) place the ball at the A-40. and 3rd down continues. The DOF penalty gives A a first down, then the UNR penalty moves the ball back 15 yards, where the new line-to-gain is established, 1/10.

7. Free Kick @ A-35. Team A is offside, and the short kickoff is touched inbounds by B44 at the B-30 and then goes out of bounds at the B-28.
RULING:
B, 1/10, B-32 B-33, snap (25), OR A, kickoff, A-30, free kick timing (25).
The offside foul may be penalized either at the spot where the dead-ball belongs to Team B (B-28), with team B next putting the ball in play, 1/10, or the penalty may be penalized at the previous spot, with the kickoff repeated, at Team B’s option.

8. 4/3 @ B-25. Team A is in a scrimmage kick formation and is lined up to attempt a field goal. B50 lines up within one yard of the line of scrimmage and is overlapping the shoulder of the snapper and the gap between the snapper and the guard. The ball is snapped, and the field goal attempt is good.
RULING:
A, 1/10, B-20, snap (25) OR A, kickoff, A-35, free kick timing (25).
Team A may decline the illegal position penalty, accept the score, and next put the ball in play by a kickoff from the A-35, or Team A may accept the illegal position penalty at the previous spot, and cancel the score, and next snap the ball at the B-20, 1/10.

Yep. Messed that up. Don’t think that would happen on the field.

7. B-33 instead of B-32.
Yep. Bad math.

Look for corrections.
Thanks.

The only quetion I had was on 5.  :40 play clock.  If it was just A's helmet coming off play clock would be :25, so does the second fact of a B injury now make it :40.  Couldn't find by rule.

The AR PeterParsons references tells us that the B injury trumps the A helmet off. I wish they would delineate that in the actual rules.
