NCAA Video Week 5, play 7
What a timely example of lighting blackout for the sake of drama, that is actually highly dangerous. Not only does it hinder our ability to officiate (who knows what happened while the lights were out?) but it could cause folks moving around the stands to misstep and fall, etc.
Many stadia now have LED lighting that accommodates dimming, changes of color, flashing, and even total blackout. I personally experienced that two weeks ago, and it was downright disconcerting. We need to nip this in the bud. Once teams take the field, there should be no blackout allowed until the teams leave the field at half-time, and until the game officials are off the field after the game is over (maybe even until one team has entirely left the field).
Contact your officiating executives and get them to get the 'blackouts' stopped.
