I was screaming at the TV. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH A FAIR CATCH, YOU MORONS! That was KICK CATCH INTERFERENCE, and is totally unrelated to a fair catch. Signal or no signal, the kicking team has to give Team B the free and clear opportunity to catch the ball, as long as the B player is in a position to make the catch. In this case, an OSU player was reaching to make the catch when the Tech player ran in front of him and caught it right in front. And, yes the kick was in flight, directly off the foot of the kicker (even though it could have also been kicked directly off the tee into the ground and on a big ‘bounce,’ - still KCI).
I have NEVER - repeat - NEVER heard a play-by-play guy or color analyst that knew anything he was talking about when it came to rules. So, where was their rules expert? Guess that game didn’t rate one.
