Idea for a (minor) rule change
« on: September 05, 2023, 11:57:02 AM »
Putting in Texas Topics; even though it could apply to NCAA I don't think it will ever make traction there.

I'd like to see TASO/UIL implement a rule that says no dangling or multiple mouthpieces, or that any mouthpiece attached to the helmet, must be in your mouth.  By rule, we know that mouthpieces are a mandatory equipment item.  I can't count how many times I've yelled for a player to put their mouthpiece in, only to have them point and say they already have one in. We cannot enforce this safety rule properly if players are given an 'out' to not have one in the first place, as long as they have a dangler... and that is exactly what is happening.  Is it minor?  Yes.  Dumb?  Also yes.  Just a pet peeve of mine.

Knew it was going to be a problem when I saw in NFL preseason doing it. Tons on Saturday now and as always trickles downhill to HS!

I like that!  May start telling them that.
