As I have been watching various live streams in recent weeks, I have noticed the UIL commercial about verbally abusing officials and becoming an official. I think when we want to change the culture with the fans, coaches, and players, public awareness through things like this commercial are vital. Kudos to the UIL for drawing attention to the problem and using it as a recruiting tool!
I also believe that the UIL should require the streamers to strongly encourage the commentators of the game to avoid being overly critical of officials. I was watching a game Dec 13th where there were multiple times the guys in the booth were using words describing calls/non calls as horrible, terrible, outrageous, unbelievable. Yes, they were homers. Still not ok.
The UIL and NCAA are clear on what is considered acceptable behavior, but do the streamers get held to that standard as well? Does TASO or the UIL have this on their radar?
