A11 throws a legal forward pass toward A88 in B’s end zone. Almost immediately after the snap, B44 intentionally removes his helmet to begin celebrating what he believes will be a team victory. The Field Judge drops a foul marker for B44’s UNS action. A88 successfully completes the catch in the end zone. Time in the period expired during the down. The UNS by B44 was his second UNS of the game.

Let's see, without consulting the rules:

Result of the play is a TD. B44 is guilty of a LB UNS and will be ejected due to it being his second. This is a foul during a TD down, and as it is a UNS it can be enforced from the succeeding spot (no option as the only succeeding spot at the time is the try). Team A try @ B-1.5.

And after checking with the rule book the above still applies unless I'm missing something obvious (would not be the first nor the last time).

Therein lies the issue. By rule, the try is NOT attempted. Game over. But the ejection is still valid, and ‘should’ affect his ability to participate in the first half of the next game. By rule, he shouldn’t be allowed to play. But, governing organizations seem to usurp this rule and let folks play, anyway. Not so much in true NCAA situations, but definitely in other jurisdictions.

Sadly, this actually happened, and the crew a) ran the try, and then b) penalized the UNS on a kickoff that followed the try, as though they had to run the kickoff as an untimed down. Thankfully, Team A did not manage to score on the kickoff. That would have been a mess of epic proportions. Don’t know iof they ejected the player, or not.
Don’t do this. Game over. Report the ejection to the governing organization.

Yeah, that's what I got wrong, I was somehow thinking of an eight point difference in the score, not nine. Fully agree that the try is not attempted if it has no possible bearing to the outcome.
