I was listening to this game on the radio and have 2 questions for anyone who was watching or can post video.
1) 2nd quarter with Alabama up 14-0. Ball snapped from 19 yard line. DPI called. R announces 15 yard penalty and ball then snapped from 4 yard line. Can that be right? I know NCAA DPI is enforced differently than NFHS, but R didn't announce that ball would be placed at the spot of the foul.
2) Late 3rd quarter. Auburn with the ball near mid-field. 3rd down play resulted in what Auburn radio thinks is 1st down. Ball marked 1/2 yard short of line to gain. Play never reviewed. He seemed to be pretty adamant it was a bad spot. Just wondering if the common-tater had a legitimate complaint.

For DPI on a play that starts outside the 2 yard line:

Start marching.  Stop when you go 15 yards, reach the spot of the foul, or reach the two yard line, whichever comes first.

If the play starts at the 2 or less, half the distance or spot of the foul, whichever is less.

In any case, automatic first down.

I'd like to see that video myself.  TV didn't replay it or make a big deal about it.  Could be because the game was virtually over at that point.

If the play starts at the 2 or less, half the distance or spot of the foul, whichever is less.

Half the distance from the previous spot, period, regardless of the spot of the foul (field of play or end zone). Similar on a try from the B-3; 1/2 the distance from the PS, regardless of the spot of the foul. I know that sounds odd, but DPI enforcement defies all conventional enforcement logic. The good news is that the liklihood of a DPI foul occurring between the B-2 the goal line is quite remote. Slightly less remote on a try from the B-3, but still remote.

When reviewing the line to gain the only thing reviewable is did they or not make the LtoG.  The spot is not reviewable. Next you must have the proper camera angle, basically camera down the line to make a ruling.  If the RO knows that he has a bad angle most likely he will not stop the game.
