Waaayyyyy back when, I was with an old vet who had a sense of humor next-to-none. One night  he told a basketball coach his name was Mendy Rudolph. The guy believed him, too!

In an attempt at humor, I have introduced myself as Bob Stoops or Mike Gundy but in serious or official situations I am always honest.
A few years ago for a game in his home town, out R put a fictitious name on the crew card which resulted in the PA announcer blurting out some ghettoise concoction.

My R always introduces us to the captains as "I'm Boliver Shagnasty and he's Reverand Doodoo Brown."

at Catholic school games:
will intro a H as "Father Flynn" & my L as "Father O'Rourke" (their real names ARE flynn & o'rourke).  Interesting to see the reaction sometimes.
(certainly not a knock on irish or catholics as I am both)
Even after one of them has a flag: "whatcha got Father?"

I have some personal ones I provide @restaurants. Perhaps best I heep them relatively clean here.  Yeah, it's immature, but hey, got to have a laugh every once in a while.

Not so much names, but when we're having a crew dinner, we have been know to tell folks that we are morticians, and we're in town for the convention.

No in officiating but many, many years ago as a policeman in Houston a citizen wanted to complain on us and wanted out names. I gave them my Sargeants name and my partner gave them the LT.

When we got back to the station they were waiting for us and told us two could play at that game. We knew they were a bunch of rogues so we didn't do it again........ ;D

I heard this from another official, his R was approached by some students before the game one Friday night. They asked him some questions and asked his name. He gave them his name, let's say Bill. Sometime in the first half as he was signaling to the press box the home students broke into a chant of "Bill you suck... Bill you suck" and it happened every time a flag was thrown on the home team. As luck would have it the crew worked the same school the next year and once again a couple students approached him and asked his name. This time he said it was Joe. Now Joe happened to be the home teams head coach. First flag on the home team the students started "Joe you suck". After a timeout, the coach talked to Bill and said so you gave them my first name. Good one and laughed as he left to go back to his sideline.

"Recognizing Sarcasm 101" is currently being offered at the University of Phoenix on-line.  Maybe you and Sheldon Cooper of The Big Bang Theory need to enroll.
