Sorry if it's a bit of a silly question.

Unsuccessful Field Goal ball placement.

So if I'm getting this right, if Team A kicks a field goal and misses, the ball will be placed on the spot where the ball was snapped previously, for Team B to start their drive, unless the Field Goal attempt is inside Team B's 20's, where Team B will get the ball at their 20 yard line?

So If team A kicks a field goal from the 2 yard line and misses, Team B will get the ball from the 20 yard line?

Is that correct?

Here´s what the rule book says:

Unsuccessful field-goal attempt.
1. When the ball is declared dead beyond the neutral zone and is untouched
by Team B beyond the neutral zone,  it belongs to Team B.   Except in
an extra period Team B will snap the ball at the previous spot unless the
previous spot was between its 20-yard line and the goal line. In that case
Team B will next snap the ball at its 20-yard line. The 20-yard-line snap
shall be from midway between the hash marks unless Team B selects a
different location on or between the hash marks before the ready-forplay signal. After the ready-for-play signal, the ball may be relocated
after a charged team timeout, unless preceded by a Team A foul or
offsetting fouls.

Ok, book also says this: IV. Fourth and eight on Team B’s 18-yard line. Team A’s unsuccessful field
goal attempt goes out of the end zone. RULING: Team B’s ball at the
20-yard line

So i believe i got it right.

You are correct as long as team B has not touched the ball after it crosses the neutral zone.

Also keep in mind, by rule, the ball is not considered touched if it is blocked within 3 yards beyond neutral zone.

This actually happened in a JUCO I was in game 5 years ago.  With 8 or so seconds remaining in the first half on 4th down team A attempted a field goal from about the 25 yardline.  The kick was low and 4 yards downfield (as confirmed by H) a team B player blocked the kick and it went back behind the NZ where a team A player fell on the ball.  We gave team A the ball back for 1st down and they kicked again and made the FG.  Team B's coach was going crazy thinking they should have the ball.  Was definitely a hard sell.

Another thing to remember is that the ball needs to become dead BEYOND the NZ untouched by B for 8-4-2-b to apply. So for instance, consider the same play from the OP where the ball is snapped from the B-2. Assume it is blocked at the B-1 and rebounds/bounces out of bounds at the B-4. It will be B's ball, but it will be B 1/10 at the B-4, not the B-20.

Just something to remember before we go into auto-pilot mode on FGs.
