Catch or not in end zone
« on: November 04, 2012, 08:00:27 AM »
Sorry to bring this up again, but . . . ???  High school game, NCAA rules. Pass thrown into end zone, where receiver secures the ball in his hands with his arms extended. He takes one step, then gets blasted by the covering DB, knocking the ball loose. I won't muddy the water with what our call was, but in postgame discussion, it was a split decision among the crew as to whether it was a catch or an incompletion. What do you think, and why? Thanks,

I think the rules in the endzone are the same as everywhere else. Would you call this a catch-and-fumble at the 45? if so,  ^good, otherwise,  ^no

I'm not ruling this a catch in NFHS, and for the same reason.

Your choice; but I find no "time frame" for possession in the Fed rules. It (TD) may not be a popular call; but, then, is that why we're out there?
