Help!
« on: March 23, 2014, 04:42:44 PM »
I've opened my mouth again and I'm requesting some help. I'm positive that some of you out there have been to this rodeo before. I was critical of our Chapter's training program so I was assigned to fix it. We have 10 meetings and generally the first meeting has been a business meeting and the last has been an election. We have approximately 250 members with probably 25-30 new members each year. The New Members meet for an hour before our meeting starts. My goal is to have a meaningful meeting centered around topics that will be needed by all officials early in the year then in Sept- Nov have guest speakers to address how the bigger picture. Do any of you have a training program that would carry a Chapter through the season that identifies topics, etc? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Send me your email address and I will give you a log in to the Houston HUDL account.  I have about 900 High School game films, 20-25 specific penalty modules complete with diagrams, 40 Weekly training playlist (of about 6-8 different plays) with diagrams, 15 subvarsity games with 3 man mechanics (all sorts of 3 man mechanic interpretations if you know what I mean), and a few PDF's diagrams for you paper based people out there.

Then come to the state meeting and go to my (HUDL) session.  We will go over how easy it is to share training modules with each other.  Then we will attempt to transfer over all of the training modules to the State account and give every chapter access to the state account  ^talk ^talk.

Here is my suggestion for the training.  The same suggestion I make to Houston every year but they don't listen to me.

Convert all trainings to on-line.  The way I figure it if they can not log into a computer they probably do not need to be officiating to begin with.  This way you only really need 1 day of field based training.

Send out weekly training modules (we use the plays that the coaches complain about).  Then you can discuss at your meeting.... OR conduct your own weekly Google Hangout where you watch and discuss everything online from the comfort of your own home.

Buck, you are welcome to call me if you want some discussion. PM me and I will get you contact info etc.
New guys are failry eassier as you cover the basics and try to do as simple as possible. Limit the veterans in the room to just those helping you. A lot of good vets want to help but teh show up in new member trainings and open up too much to shwo knowledge and mess up your intended message.

We  use HUDL heavily. I can get you soem access to our stiff and even share film with you guys if you use it. We also put out weekly clips of plays and make narratives on them. Our members really like film with the lessons so if you can, use it.
