See a lot of snaps.

Video discussion with other officials. I have also included much more mechanics in the 2014 Aloha Clinic Videos. I now have four of the eight posted and should be done within 10 days.

When you get assigned to a position read your manual on that position and only that position eveygame eveytime until it become second nature to you and it will but read everytime a must... before your game

After 13 years, I STILL review my mechanics manual for the position I'm going to work the night before the game for a varsity game.

Of course, I also worked 5 different positions in varsity games last year, so YMMV.  :)

We start our new guys at linesman. In preseason or exhibition games we ask to have him put on the chain crew, so he can observe L's mechanics and ask questions of him during down time. Coaches have always been congenial of allowing new guys to follow the play along their sidelines. Practical application works well. If you have a D-1 school in your area that is hosting a season-opener, you might be able to pursue a clinic from the college guys the night before, as they have to be there and have no prior week's film to review.

Once you get a general feel for what's required at your position, concentrate on ONE item per game.  When you get that down, move on to the next.

For example, you might go into a game thinking "Tonight, when I have a run to my side, I'm going to make sure I move toward the backfield and let the play flow ahead of me."  Or, "Tonight, I'm going to try to be really good at watching action away from the ball."

After a while, such things will become second nature to you, and you can add to your repertoire from there.

ASk to go with a senior official that is highly rated and watch him and ask questions on the way to the game and home from the game
If you didn't see it, you can't call it
