Bold prediction that I'm not sure whether or not I hope comes true: The "Power Five" cartel will eventually become a farm system for the NFL, not unlike how Minor League Baseball, minor/junior league hockey, and the NBA D-League are currently run. They'll play by NFL rules (Hopefully by then they'll have fixed the catch rule and gotten rid of that godawful 33-yard extra point) and the players will probably be paid by that time. I'm honestly not sure whether or not I'm in favor of that idea, but it sure wouldn't surprise me if that were the case.
What you'd probably then see is the MAC, C-USA, and Sun Belt schools all jump ship for the "Power Five" conferences because they want to stay relevant and cash in on TV deals and ticket revenue from playing in big stadiums.
If that happens, I hope the Big Ten will absorb 6 more teams and have two divisions: One called the "Real Big Ten Division" with all the original ten schools plus Penn State, and the other called the "ESPN Division" with the other nine. The only inter-division competition is the conference championship game so old-timers like me can enjoy playing the conference opponents we grew up watching.
