I really enjoy your questions and I was wondering if this thread could be dedicated to your "Bubba" plays.

Alive and well and working 7-man flag/touch football ( all that Maine currently allows). It is entirely passing, no rushing the QBs just 5 eligible receivers being covered by 7 defenders. To keep the big ole' bubbas active and out of trouble only THEY become the players in the 1st & 3rd periods. If no Bubbas can throw a pass, a backup QB can be used. While it is competition, it closer resembles a scrimmage. The kids have fun, so that's the important part.

A couple of BOB (big ole' Bubba ) happenings :

All BOB receivers line up on LOS, we flag for illegal formation, coach yells : " ;D of course they did, they're all lineman  ;D"

A BOB QB weighed at least 300 lbs and could throw a pass 50+ yards. I joked that he should play there. He responded : "I'm too fat to run and I might have to and here I don't have any teammates that can run down that far to catch my passes   :(" He was right  ;) !

The snappers just snap the ball and stand there as they are not eligible receivers. I'm the R in a 3-man crew with the responsibility of spotting the ball. I ask the snappers if they would like to catch the throwbacks on incomplete passes and spot the ball. They all have said "GREAT :o". I remind them that the HL will keep them honest  :P.

I'm sure they'll be more BOB stories as the season progresses. We are hopeful that "real" football may return in the Spring.

And you get paid for that? If I can get travel expenses, I'll sign up? 8] On second thought, it is getting to be cooler weather. Maybe I'll just stay put.
Hmmm. Do ya think we could just move this whole thing to Hawaii?

The US Army has sponsored a one day tournament in the past at one of our area high schools in late June/early July.  It is a chance to get some early snaps in.  Of course pandemic restrictions wiped that out this past summer.

Our pay is the sub-varsity pay. They have state association permission to play until mid-November with no post-season. I doubt that many schools will play that long. I believe Hawaii doesn't currently allow football in any form. Oh,yes….the R has to count to 4 with his hand IF the QB hasn't gotten his pass off by then, he's "sacked".  :!#

A league of sorts has existed during the summer in Maine for several years (not this one :() but I am umping baseball then. I support anything that is good for the kids. I feel this is good for them.

Wife and I took a weekend getaway trip to Maine this past weekend for our anniversary; completely forgot about yall doing 7 man this year. We would have gone to see a game (if one was close).  We went and played golf at Sugarloaf and Belgrade Lakes, had a fantastic trip.

Great area, glad you enjoyed it. Attendance at a 7 on 7 game might have been a challenge. Our gov. only allows 100 people at any outdoor event COUNTING players, coaches, officials and the like. Some schools don't allow any fans, some give 2 tickets to senior players, etc.
