The "geniuses" at the UIL think it is just as easy as having a place with "all these cameras".  Even given the fact they could get experienced college, and even NFL, replay officials without even going outside the state...how screwed up will it be having on field guys with zero experience with replay trying to officiate with it?  If you want an idea, watch some lower level college games now where they do not typically have replay as game is not televised and see what happens when they have to do a game with it.  It is not pretty.  The coaches don't know what is reviewable and is not, the officials do not know, and the game delays are ridiculous.

I have a solution that will "improve" the officiating for far less money and far less problems.....let us go to 7 man crews and let's have the Chapters submit 7 man crews for game assignment consideration.  The application could list each crew member's experience with 7 man mechanics and could even require they take a 7 man mechanics certification test before being considered.

And in order to get more guys experienced with 7 man mechanics, in reg season and early round playoffs, let's let Chapters use 7 man crews (for the cost of 5) when they choose to do so.

Simple Solution:  Pin size hat cams in every officials hat downloading video to my Ipad on the sideline.  Controversial play I go to the sideline I have 5 camera angles to look at the play.  R and the official making the call go over to review it with visual evidence.  I can even show the captains or the head coach the play.  I would even venture to say that I would be quicker then the NFL replay officials.  All I would need is a wireless network covering the field and I believe I could even get around that.  Cost to put a pin size hat cam in my hat 150-200 dollars.  I was going to make a prototype this spring.  Coaches would love it because I can give them 5 different game film camera angles to view a play after the game.  I can have a working system in 2 weeks if you give me $1,000 to buy the cameras.

But Coby, then someone else will bring an IPad, find the signal, and know when I'm checkin' out the hot mammas in the stands.

I am more afraid of me picking my nose or scratching myself, because trust me the coaches are looking at the mommas also.  While it would be possible to pirate any signal if you tried long enough it is not that difficult to only have it viewable by your ipad.  Eventually down the line we could have a tv deal of broadcasting every high school game to a website.  Wouldnt that HACK in UIL's cheerios?

I realize you have to get permission first to broadcast anything (for profit).  We are really the only organization in position to broadcast every single high school game in the state.  We would have to reach an agreement with the THSCA and probably the UIL but I am hoping to leave them out of it.  We broadcast the games from our unique vantage point and people can tune in online to watch the game.  Then we sell advertising.  I bet I could get TAPPS schools to agree to it, I only seem to call TAPPS games so maybe...HMMMMMM

Yeah! Manor Road is absolutely overrun by a plethora of  :bOW "geniuses," more especially in its upper stratifications. The sad truth is that Manor Road doesn't have the first clue of how to functionally operate an instant replay system and will only offer lip service to the UIL member coaches of something to the effect of "Well, we'll be happy to look in to it for you!" The sad truth is that Manor Road will not shell out one thin dime to pay for such a system. But they'll be very happy to contract with some TV network to do it for them, probably paving the way for TV to pay the UIL additional revenues or stipends to let them provide this "invaluable service." That is why, they'll only consider adopting this measure for only the State Championship Games. I would surmize that the revenue that Manor Road is pulling down from tu to justify its sordid existence is not nearly enough and they as always are exploring other options to fatten its kitty.

tiphat: Manor Road: Just administrate the schools and the coaches as your original mission statement dictated and leave officiating to TASO and the officiating community. We have lived decades without IR; I can't really see any reason why we can't live a few more of them without it. After all, if these "geniuses" do ultimately give approval to it, then they will place the financial burden of doing so squarely on all of its  cash-strapped school districts who can ill afford it, and would not contribute even as much as one scintilla of cash toward it unless they can find a way of making money off of it!  I had always thought that the UIL's purpose was to support education; not to exert itself as being some second-class fundraiser to help justify its own sorry survival and it's big salaries in hard times like these!   z^

Hmmmm...
I found this quote from TXMike's legal case post interesting:
"Some things I've read that perpetuates a misperception of the WIAA, the WIAA receives no revenue dedicated by taxes and is a private - not governmental - entity," Clark said.

Did I understand this correctly?  Is the WIAA, I suppose the Wisconsin equivalent of the UIL, saying that they are NOT a government entity?  Do they realize the legal protections they've just given away?

In defense of the wingmen, I'd still very much like to see the lateral view directly down that particular goalline without having to guess about it by having watched it from a somewhat pronounced pressbox angle. Definitely don't think you could use that particular footage to justify whether it was actually a touchdown or not!   z^

Looks like a great call to me...QB is bobbling the ball as his hands drop and he never has secure possession of it.  Bring on the replays...I believe in myself and I'm confident that I'll get a lot more right than wrong.

Agreed! The video shows nothing conclusive.  The call on the field stands.

Which now would give substantive weight to "L'il Johnnies'" Great Aunt Martha and Uncle Mortimer having attended that game and actively participated in sending the Head Coach  one of those many text messages certifying that the "stripes" just got it all wrong; and then proceeding on over to that infamous  :bOW Manor Road website and filling out that "most objective" officials review form, thus being able to moronicly "ding" that crew of officials for a call that they probably got right in the first place!

Well, the  tiphat: Good UIL Dr.s  tiphat: and their  :!# Dancing Monkey probably need plenty of free reading material while "earning" those laborious "state wages" of theirs trying to pilfer their way through pools of money to spend on exhorbitant and unneeded things. Now, it appears that they have an avenue to get it!   z^

I pray THAT clip is not why they're crying for IR? That shows absolutely nothing and even in the NFL that play would stand.

I don't think they are basing it on this.  There is another station that had video but I have not been able to find it.  It is the other station's video that the P-Ville folks claim "proves" their case
