Inadvertent Signal Texas v Kansas State

Never saw that before. K-State player intercepted and ran for an apparent touchdown.  TD signaled.  Replay showed he dropped the ball prior to crossing the goal line.  Gave it to K-State at the 1/2 as a result of an inadvertent signal. :!#

Amending my post here because I just saw the replay and don't understand how it supports the ruling made.  Ball was loose 5 yards in the EZ when FJ signaled.

So far this weekend we've had two high profile games with IW situations, and neither one involved an actual ??? whistle?

I think they got it spot on if they truly had evidence to overturn. Most fans don't know the TD signal kills the play by rule.  But where was the ball when the whistle blew/signal made? Maybe there was an angle we didn't see.  Not sure what Mac Brown could have wanted.  It's the team in possession at the IW who has the choice and if it's the half yard line, Snyder isn't going to say replay the down. Good explanation by the R too.

The spot of the loose ball at the time of the signal/whistle doesn't matter, the option by the team in possession is to take the ball where possession was lost.  Note that rule 4-1-2-b-2 contains exception rule 12.  If Texas had recovered the ball in the EZ after the inadvertent signal, replay could have awarded them the ball under immediate continuing action.  Some have said Replay could have awarded a Touchback if it had rolled OB, but I'm not sure how they could do that.

Why would the F be signalling? ? ? He would have been WWWAAAAAYYYYYY behind the play

While my initial thought was that 1 crew owned up to it while the other didn't..."upon further review", it appears replay stepped in in one game but not the other, so it was not the onfield crew who owned up to it.  Chalk 1 up for the Big XII replay crew.  (Although it would be hard to own up to a mistake if you were not even aware of it)

Also noticed the R, who has the goal line respoinsibility in these type plays, never signalled TD as the player crossed the GL (in the available video).  He was the only one who could have possibly seen where the ball was in relation to the GL when it was released.  He must have signalled later as they were set to to do the EP when they got buzzed.

I like the twist that if L hadn't signaled TD and the ball would have been declared dead in A's EZ it would have been touchdown for K-State.
